The Things You Always Wanted to Know From A Male Sex Worker in Amsterdam
In September 2015, we met with Lyle Muns, who is a male sex worker in Holland’s capital. We met each other at De Koffieschenkerij in Amsterdam Red Light District. Lyle is 21 years elderly and does sex work part-time. The rest of the week he’s busy studying Political Science. It was really interesting to hear his stories and experiences to gain a better comprehending of prostitution in the Netherlands. Here’s what we asked him:
1 | When did you launch working as a sex worker?
Three years ago. Now I’m 21 so I started when I was 18.
2 | Where did you live back then?
I was born in Maastricht, in the South of the Netherlands. When I started working as a sex worker, I lived in a small village in Belgium and was going to university at the same time so that’s pretty contrary. I worked for a couple of months as a prostitute to conserve some money and alternated with traveling in South-America. Since one year now, I live, learn and work in Amsterdam.
3 | What is the difference between being a male sex worker in Bel
I had to change my flight from Copenhagen to Amsterdam. There was no way I was going to miss Meat Market (link NSFW)—a once-a-month anonymous sex party at Club Church where bottoms appear 30 minutes before tops and strip down completely naked (or to a jock). They wear either a white or red hood, depending on if they care whether tops wear condoms. Red hood if you want to get fucked raw. Colorless hood if you need protection.
Once inside, you can’t see or choose who fucks you. Your hole has to be exposed for any top who desires. (If you oblige a break, one of the “chaperones” who operate the event will escort you to the particular bottom’s room to erase your hood and linger . These chaperones are also condom checkers, making sure the guys wearing colorless hoods aren’t getting barebacked.)
Every time you get fucked, one of the chaperones will tally you with a Sharpie. At the end of the evening, whoever gets fucked by the most men gets a reward. (I reflect the prize is something like free entry for next month, worth all of 20 euros or whatnot.)
