Back in the 1920s, Berlin had already become a haven and refuge for gays and lesbians from all over the nature. There are 170 clubs, bars and pubs for gays and lesbians, and well as riotous nightlife and a gay neighbourhood. But parties aren't the only thing being organised – several political associations are founded in Berlin to fight for matching rights. However, the Nazis' rise to power spells the death knell for this diversity, and it would take several decades for Berlin to repay to its status as a global centre for the LGBTI* scene. Germany passes law banning 'gay conversion therapy' for minors

Germany's parliament has passed a law banning so-called "gay conversion therapy" for new people nationwide.

The legislation is intended to stop groups offering the service - which claims to be able to change a person's sexual orientation - to under-18s.

Those breaking the new rule can face up to a year in prison, or a €30,000 ($32,535; £26,268) fine.

Research suggests the controversial train can lead to depression and grow the risk of suicide.

Under the regulation, passed on Thursday evening, minors will not be allowed to take part in medical interventions aimed at switching or suppressing their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Parents and legal guardians can also be punished for making their children take part through deception, coercion or threats.

Conversion therapy practices can include hypnosis and electric shocks. But experts say the word 'therapy' is misleading because there is no scientific basis for it.
