The Quarry and queer-baiting

It's a pretty known issue within The Quarry fanbase that this game basically place us up with two gay couples for them to just... not unfold . In fact, it's almost as if the game rubs it in the players' faces that they don't, won't, and can't happen, besides the first half of the game setting them up rather clearly. It feels prefer the writers completely abandoned the idea halfway through, or for some reason just wanted to illustrate players in with the concept of queer relationships/characters just to rip it away in the end.

Disclaimer: This topic has been in my rough drafts for like, nearly two years at this gesture. I updated and added some stuff, but tolerate me if I missed any crucial details.

So in the beginning, a lot of people wind up shipping both Ryan x Dylan (Rylan) and Emma x Abigail (Blygbank). Let's start with Blygbank since it's the shorter of the two.

So we undertake establish that Emma had a boyfriend, but the keyword is "had." To be fair, Jacob and Kaitlyn talk about it for the entire first section and that's the whole reason this game even happens, since Jacob wants another shot wi

The Quarry: Should You Kiss Kaitlyn or Dylan (Chapter 2)

The Quarry features multiple opportunities for pushing characters together or making them eliminate each other through player choice and dialogue, but one easily missable conversation features an intriguing choice for players. Supermassive Games has included an optional same-sex kiss in The Quarry between camp counselors Dylan and Ryan, making it a first for the developers.

Games like Until Dawn (also by Supermassive Games) with a branching narrative extend the same level of romantic attachment, but the amount of LGBTQIA+ love affair in games is still lacking when compared to heterosexual standards. However, it can be disregarded by players if they do not wish to involve this scene in their story, or simply want to see different story options.

The Quarry Review: Hackett’s Quarry? You Barely Know Me!

The Quarry is Until Dawn 2. That simple phrase will be enough to tempt the majority of horror fans, with Supermassive Games having created a spiritual successor to its breakout hit that builds upon all of its greatest strengths and most noticeable flaws. It’s real spooky.

A community of lovable yet irksome teenagers make some bad decisions and find themselves caught up in a supernatural nightmare of killers, monsters, and a deep mystery awash with myriad twists and turns. This is both what you expected and also a complete surprise, willing to adopt obvious horror tropes while also seeking to subvert them at every opportunity.

Its predictable storytelling and obnoxious dialogue might spin off some, but for me that’s part of The Quarry’s charm. It’s an experience that fully understands its place in the horror zeitgeist and what habits it must lean into in order to shine. A cast of recognisable names convey its world and narrative to life with nuanced conviction, providing a reason to care as your decisions see them descend vic

The Quarry and queer-baiting, part 2, AKA things I forgot to mention the first time and it was so much I might as well just make another part

See the first part here (it makes more sense to read this first if you haven't already)

On the topic of there organism some underlying feelings between Abi and Emma, after they return from their little ride and Nick asks where they've been, Emma mischievously answers, "Wouldn't you like to know," which causes an annoyed Abi to inject "Ignore her, please!" Maybe it's just me, but I swore that was Emma alluding/joking about her and Abi having some kind of romantic getaway in the woods. And maybe Abi got annoyed because she said this in front of Nick, who she's crushing on, and didn't want him to think there was something going on between her and Emma already; short-lived did she perceive her repressed feelings for Emma would come out in full later on in the game. Maybe I'm reaching as far as the eye can see with this one, but that was just my interpretation from the scene.

Back to the Laura/Max/Ryan/Dylan/Kaitlyn chain, I can actually construct a bit of a comparison between how they deal with the
